Thursday and Friday, March 14 and 15. Southeast of the Selinda Reserve lie the
Makgadikgadi Pans, a shimmering, moon-like expanse of ancient salt pans
covering thousands of square miles within the Kalahari Desert. This land is
home to the San bushmen, members of one of the longest surviving cultures
in the world. Discuss their ancient legacy with Spencer Wells, Explorer-in-
Residence and director of the Society’s Genographic Project, and learn about
Spencer’s groundbreaking genetic research linking the San to mankind’s
earliest ancestors. Go trekking with local bushmen, enjoy a special San dance
performance, and gather for a fire-roasted dinner under the desert stars.

Tau Pan Camp
Tau Pan is a luxurious Central Kalahari game lodge in Botswana. This lodge can accommodate up to eighteen guests in thatched, tented suites which are built on raised wooden decks. The camp is situated on the edge of an ancient sand dune and its elevated position (a rarity in Botswana) means that it has fantastic views over Tau Pan.
As one of the first semi permanent camps within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the game lodge has been built with eco-friendly principles in mind and only uses solar power to generate electricity and pump water from deep below the sand.
