Today is the first part of our journey home. In the morning we left Cusco and flew to Lima, the capital city. We also went from 11,500ft to sea level so breathing becme effortlessly easy again.
The idea was to go to a local museum, tour us around the city, have lunch in a “private” home, get a music recital then go to our hotel which was right on the coast with an ocean view.
The museum, Larco Herrera, was about pre-Inca art (think Azka, the ones who made the massive figures in the desert and were generally more artistic than the Incas)

The city was interesting, clearly showing signs of having been “colonized” - plenty of Spanish architecture. The lunch was at the home (Casa Aliaga) of a wealthy family who had lived there for generations and were renting out rooms for people like our group. The music recital was really good. A local musician demonstrated a variety of traditional instruments and played for us. It’s a lot more than pan pipes.
We drove to the coast, San Isidro, and checked into our hotel - The Miraflores Park. The hotel had recently been completely refurbished and had a few “teething” problems. But generally OK.
But, here’s the rub. We had an early morning flight to Miami, then SFO. We had a wakeup call at 3:30am and left the hotel at 4:30am. Painful.
Anyway, I’m writing this on our way to Miami, hoping we make our connection to SFO this evening. If so, I’m done!
