On of the famous (daily) events in Luang Prabang is the the tradition of almsgiving. The monks have no source of food other than what is donated to them by the local people. So they parade out at dawn (around 6:30am) to collect food for their daily meals. It's an unusual and moving sight. So, I got up at 5:30am, and we set off to see this event. It was still raining hard so we weren't quite sure how this would work. But it did.

They came in small groups but totaled a few hundred. They collected mostly rice.
Back to the hotel to dry out and have breakfast.
The rest of the day consisted of touring the countryside, visiting local villages, taking in spectacular waterfalls and enjoying a cruise down the Meekong river. Overall a great day in a unique place with some spectacular new experiences.
