April 22 - Travel Day

Today was a major travel day from Kangaroo Island to Colombo, Sri Lanka. We departed Kangaroo Island for the short flight to Adelaide. We then transferred to the International terminal and got reunited with our jet. The second leg of the journey was from Adelaide to Jakarta, Indonesia where we did a quick refuelling stop. Then on to Colombo. All told, the journey was more than 12 hours. We arrived in Colombo around 8pm (midnight Austarlian time). Tired. It took another 45min by bus to get to our hotel. Everyone was expecting to crash upon arrival but the hotel had laid on a massive buffet dinner so we all settled into a “midnight feast”. Then crashed.

I expected Sri Lanka to be similar to India but I was surprised at the difference. Colombo is modern, organized, not too busy and lacks the chaos of a typical Indian city. Sri Lanka is also predominantly Bhudist which is unusual since most Bhudist countries (Nepal, Laos, Bhutan, etc.) are far to the north.

Tomorrow we go to Habanera in the center of the Island to explore some of the history and visit three UNESCO World Heritage sites.
