Today we are to travel to Habarana but first we took a short tour of the city of Colombo. Much of the city architecture is influenced by the various colonizations - Portuguese, Dutch and, of course the British. So it has a very “colonial” feel.
Habanara is about 150 miles from Colombo and I was curious about how we would get there. I wasn’t relishing a long hot bus ride. Well, that question was soon answered.
The Country’s air force, being not too busy at the moment, laid on these nice helicopters to to take us from a small field in the center of the city on what would now be a short, but cramped trip. Each helicopter holds 24 people so two helicopters and two trips were required.
It was really hot and the only downside was that the windows were permanently steamed up so ther wasn’t much of a view.
Even better, we landed right next to our hotel - the Kandalama so it was a 5 minute bus ride to the hotel.
Upon arrival we were surprised and delighted at the welcoming performance of traditional Sri Lankan dancers.
Time for lunch!
