I got the opportunity to explore the rain forest at night. It gets dark around 6pm so we set off with a couple of guides into the dark depths of the forest, armed with flashlights and camera. It was completely dark and a bit spooky. Just as well the guides knew where to go because I would have been lost in seconds. I was excited to photograph nocturnal wildlife with flash. This was a great opportunity to do just that.

Now, that was fun! In fact this was one of the highlights of the trip for me. Plenty more pictures for the gallery when I get round to it.
Now, back to Carl’s dinner.
Overall, Madagascar was quite an experience - definitely more of an Expedition than vacation. While I’m really glad we went there, we all agreed the experience could have been better. We wanted to see more Lemurs. The lodge (Fontenay) had it’s issues but it was still the best place in the area.
Tomorrow we would haul ourselves back down the dirt roads to Diego Suarez, board the small planes for the bumpy ride back to Antananarivo then back on our jet for something completely different - 3 days in the Maldives, the World’s most luxurious pit stop!
