Off to the Maldives, the World’s lowest lying Island chain (just 6m at it’s height). We landed at Gan Airport and were shuttled to our hotel by speed boat. The hotel (resort) was the Vilingili Shangri-La. We had been there once before and agreed it was pretty close to paradise. We had two full days. The first day we did nothing. I mean nothing. In the evening we had a party with our travel friends, arranged by Per and Astrid. We had dinner on the beach and it was an extraordinary and memorable event.
Next day was (slightly) more active. I went snorkeling in the morning (don’t really recommend snorkeling with a hangover). We were accompanied by Tierney Thys, marine biologist, lives in Carmel and studies Sun Fish (Mola). Tierney would dive down and fetch interesting creatures so we could see them up close. Like sea cucumbers.
I took a number of pictures with my under-water camera but it got water-logged and broke. Pity, second failure of the trip.
In the afternoon, I got a massage - full-on sports, dig in the elbows, de-kinking variety. Very welcome after three weeks of no exercise.
That evening was the sunset beach party and dinner. Great fun. Hot, windy.
Next morning we would be on our way to Bali, Indonesia. Refreshed.
Sorry not to post any pictures of the Resort. Never thought to take any. Look it up on the Web.
