April 14 Lima to Cusco

Monday, April 14. Today, in the morning, we took a flight from Lima to Cusco. About a 1.5hr flight. Cusco is over 11,000 feet and the approach to landing was quite exciting! Luckily, landed safely and piled on to busses for a tour of Cusco before departing for our final destination of that day - the Urubamba Valley, or “The Sacred Valley Of The Inca’s”.

First, it was pretty clear we had arrived in Peru.

We had a guide, Alvin, who took us to the Koricancha Temple for a tour.

We were a bit burned out so the tour didn’t get our full attention , especially since it was mobbed with tourists - this is “Holy week”. But Alvin did his best to describe the precision of the Inca stone work and start what became a long and detailed tutorial on the Incas, their success, and how they were eventually overthrown by a small band of Spaniards, thus destroying the Inca empire.

There we a variety of activities planned after lunch but there were storm clouds on the horizon so we made a hasty retreat out of town to the valley.
