April 12 The Final Spectacle, Part 2

Saturday, April 12. As I mentioned in my last post, we set sail for our final destination and passed an amazing Islet sitting there in the middle of nowhere - Kicker Rock.

We were having cocktails on the sun deck and nobody was paying much attention.

Once we got closer, it became clear just how unique this landmark really was.

It was quite an amazing sight and the captain did us a favor and circumnavigated it twice before setting off for our final destination - Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal.

Along the way we were followed by a number of Frigate Birds who got a free ride on the updraft from the ship. It was as though they were bidding us farewell.

We anchored later that day during our fairwell dinner. The next day we disembarked and were taken to the San Cristobal airport for our return flight to Guyaquil. It’s refreshing to know that, in this day and age, there’s still airports of a sizeable city which are a tin shed and you have to climb steps to get on the plane.

On arrival at Guyaquil we had a 6 hour layover so we had a long lunch at a local hotel. Back to the airport in time for our flight to Lima. We had all the hassles of checking in for an International flight but left more or less on time and arrived in Lima late in the evening. The plan was to stay overnight then catch a flight to Cousco, Peru, the next morning for the second part of our adventure.
