November 7, Day 4. Meet Omani farmers to learn about agriculture in the palm tree oasis of Birkat al Mawz and walk through the traditional falaj irrigation fields. This type of irrigation system has been in use for some 1,500 years and was recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Check into your hotel and have a couple of hours to relax. Afterwards, head to the abandoned mud-brick village of Tanuf, nestled at the mouth of the canyon. Hear the dramatic story of how this water rich site was depopulated. Climb up the mountains in the Jabal al Akhdar region to have dinner that evening.
