November 5, 2016, Day 2. Muscat. Learn about Ibadism, Oman’s main Islamic sect,  and its doctrine of tolerance at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, paved with marble and made of Indian sandstone. Stroll through the Oman Garden, take in views of the Sultan's opulent official residence, Al Alam Palace. Wander the labyrinth of alleyways of the Muttrah Souq, and Arabian bazaar filled with exotic spices, perfumes and handicrafts. In the fishing village of Wantab, visit the National Museum, showcasing the nation's heritage from the earliest human settlement in the Oman Peninsula some two million years ago through to the present day. Meet with local archaeologist Lorena Glorgio  to learn about the Jewel of Muscat ship, a reconstructed medieval Arab boat that sailed form Oman to Singapore, and was featured in National Geographic's documentary, Sailing the Treasure Ship. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner that will include local specialties from the region.
