April 10 Back to Santiago

Thursday, April 10. Overnight we retraced our cruise back to Santiago, the fourth largest in the Galapgos Islands, and anchored off Espumilla Beach. Some early risers went ashore for a hike before breakfast. Carol and I didn’t.

After this brief stay, the ship moved on a short distance to Bucaneer’s Cove, a one-time pirate haunt as well as the place where Darwin spent most of his time on the Galapagos. I decided to give snorkelling another go. This time, while not quite as spectacular as before in wildlife, it had it’s exciting moments due to the rough seas and swimming very close to sheer cliffs and hidden caves. We almost lost Kevin in one of the caves but he managed to struggle his way out.
