I’m a fan of the Nikon 1 series cameras. I like the small size and the availability of small, wide aperture lenses. Ergonomically, while there are some “quirks”, I like the overall feel, especially the V3.
From previous tests (Noise), the availability of wide aperture lenses is important because of the need to narrow the DOF with the Nikon 1’s small sensor.
The big downside of the Nikon 1 cameras is the limitations on SNR and dynamic range. If, like me, you are also using larger DSLR cameras (D810), the quality of image (at 100%) is dramatically different between these cameras at equivalent ISO levels. In fact DXO Labs has measured these differences as a approximately three stops (8X) of both dynamic range and SNR versus the D810.

Further comparison with the D7100 (similar with the SONY A6000), DX, shows performance between the V-series and the D810.

Interstingly, DXO shows the DR of the D7100 very similar to the D810 except at very low ISO’s.
