I think of this software, on the iPhone, as equivalent to SnapBridge for Nikon. While no fan of Snapbridge, Image Edge reaches new lows in terms of software quality and stability. The main uses are:
1. Transfer selected (low resolution jpeg) images from the camera to the camera roll on the phone for subsequent publishing to Instagram, Airdrop, etc.
2. Tagging images with GPS data tranferred from the phone
That’s about it. With Snapbridge, all this can be accomplished with a Bluetooth connection. Image Edge needs Wifi also which makes things much more complicated. On the other hand, Image Edge claims thay can do the transfer while the camera id off. We’ll see.
How did I get it to work?
1. Initial set up and pairing between the phone and the camera - I followed the instructions and eventually managed to get them paired - Bluetooth and also a direct WiFi connection. The A7R IV is now “registered” with my iPhone.
To transfer images, follow these steps:
1. Open Image Edge on the iPhone. The A7R IV should show up on the Camera List
2. Turn on the camera
3. In the camera Menu: Menu -> Network 1 -> Send To SmartPhone Func. -> Send to smartphone -> Select on smartphone
Note. A QR code will show up on the camera. Ignore it
4. On the smartphone tap on the regsrtered camera (7RM4) - join the network
5. Start viewing the in-camera images -> OK. Tap on list of images to expand them.
6. Select the images to transfer and tap the “transfer” icon ->] Images will be transferred to the camera roll
7. Select “cancel” on the camera and switch off camera
8. Image Edge will eventually revert back to the “home screen”
9. You can view the images selected in the Image Edge software. Im not sure if they are duplicates of what’s in the camera roll. You can share directly from Image Edge or go to camera roll. Not sure which is better. If you want to delete the images, you do it from the camera roll.
Next step is to figure out how to geo-tag images from the phone and also how to transfer images to the phone when the camera is off. Good luck!
